A female kamnan was killed in a shooting outside her house in Saiburi district of Pattani province late on Thursday afternoon.
She was identified as Maska Ma-Ing, 51, an outstanding sub-district chief award winner from tambon Manang Dalam in Saiburi, who was greatly revered by locals.
Pol Lt-Col Chaovalit Ardteng, duty officer at Saiburi police station, said the attack occurred at around 6pm in front of the victim’s house on Saiburi-Kapo road at Moo 1, tambon Manang Dalam.
Witnesses told police that Mrs Maska was parking her motorcycle in front of her house when two men on another motorcycle approached her.
The gunman riding pillion fired several shots from his handgun before the attackers fled.
Mrs Maska took four bullets to the chest and torso. She was taken to Saiburi Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police blamed separatist militants.
