Girl, 5, killed in Pattani gun attack

A five-year-old girl was killed in a gun attack which was intended to take the life of her father in Pattani's Panare district late on Saturday night, police said.

Adisorn Masah, the village chief of Village Group 5 in tambon Pho Ming, told police that while he was about to leave his home with his five-year-old daughter Sunfar Masah in a pick-up truck to take his wife to Panare town, three or four men emerged from the roadside bush and opened fire on him.

His daughter was hit in the head by an AK47 bullet and died instantly, while he escaped unhurt. The pick-up truck was riddled with bullet holes.

The incident took place at about 10pm.

Police examining the scene recovered 20 spent shells of AK47 ammunition.
