Cambodia slams 2 border killings

Cambodia’s foreign ministry Monday condemned Thailand’s military for two shooting that it claimed left two Khmer nationals dead and one injured since Sept 28.

The ministry said it "strongly protests" the killing of two suspected illegal loggers by Thai soldiers Sept 28, along with the killing of a Cambodian soldier near the Preah Vihear temple, the Phnom Penh Post reported. That skirmish also left one Thai solider dead.

The incidents have ratcheted up tensions between the two countries that had eased since the coup May 22. The ministry said Cambodians suspected of sneaking into Thailand to log rosewood are being killed "with impunity" by Thais.

The paper said Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims no Cambodian loggers were killed between Jan 1 and Sept 1. The Cambodian Ministry of Interior disputes that, saying that says 12 were killed in a single day in March after 69 were gunned down in 2013.
