Four found killed in South school

The bullet-riddled bodies of four men were found lying in a remote school in Chian Yai district of Nakhon Si Thammarat province early on Sunday morning, police said.

Pol Capt Sukamol Suleedamrongwut, the duty officer at Chian Yai police station, said investigators were now at Ban Don Tanot School in tambon Sua Hueng after being informed of the discovery of the bodies.

The dead men were lying next to an Isuzu pickup truck on a concrete road near the old meeting hall inside the school's compound. About 20 spent shells of 9mm, 11mm and 5.56mm ammunition were found nearby.

Three of the dead men were identified as Kriengkrai Chumthong, 47, of Nakhon Si Thammarat's Cha-uat district, Somchai Homkhao, a native of Phatthalung province, and Thawat Buathongkham, of Nakhon Si Thammarat's Pak Phanang district. The other dead man has yet to be identified.

Traces of another pickup truck were found at the scene.

Police believed the four were murdered by another group men after they were unable to settle a dispute.

Villagers said they heard the sound of gunshots from the school at about 3am.

Pol Lt Col Chokdee Srimuang, deputy superintendent of Nakhon Si Thammarat police, said Kriengkrai was suspected to be a hired gunman who had killed family members of the mayor of Tambon Khao Chumthong Municipality two years ago and the case against him was still proceeding in court.

All four were believed to have been involved in a network of gunmen for hire in Phatthalung province and other illegal activities.
