Villagers hunting paddy rats found 18 rounds for an M79 grenade launcher and two 60mm mortar rounds dumped in scrub near a creek in tambon Sanamkhli of Bang Krathum district, Phitsanulok province, on Tuesday morning.
Thongchai Thungphodaeng, the Bang Krathum district chief, informed the authorities of the find and led police and soldiers to the spot.
They concluded the 18 M79 rounds were still in a good condition, but the 60mm mortar shells were very old. They destroyed the two mortar rounds.
The ammunition was believed to have been dumped by people fearing the consequences if caught with it.
