NCPO: More evidence related to blasts found

Police have obtained more evidence which may be related to the two blasts at the Erawan shrine and the Sathon boat pier on Aug 17, the National Council for Peace and Order announced through a broadcast nationwide by the Television Pool on Sunday.

Col Winthai Suwaree, the NCPO spokesman, said police were examining the evidence, but did not elaborate.

The result of the examination would be reported to the public provided that it did not affect the ongoing investigation into the two blasts, he added.

The NCPO spokesman said the situation in general was normal after the Aug 17 incidents.

Two posters of messages on the social media deemed to have caused confusion among the people were arrested in Bangkok and Ayutthaya provinces and were now undergoing legal procedures, Col Winthai said. He would not give further details.

Concerning assistance for the victims and their families, the Tourism and Sports and Justice ministries had already paid compensation to the relatives of 16 people - 14 foreigners and two Thais.

Altogether 100 requests for compensation had been received and payments would be made in due course, he said.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration had separately paid some financial assistance to nine of the injured.

Col Winthai said four more people injured in the Ratchaprasong blast had been discharged from hospital, leaving 52 still undergoing treatment.

The NCPO called for people who had information or had found any clues concerning the blasts to call 1515 to give information to the authorities.

Col Winthai also announced that the police had today launched a massive crackdown on crime throughout Bangkok to ensure safety for the public.
