Soldier killed, one wounded by bomb in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT -- A soldier of Narathiwat Task Force 32 was killed and another seriously wounded by a bomb excplosion while they were providing security for teachers in tambon Bare Tai of Bacho district on Wednesday, police said.

The attacked occurred shortly before 8am when six soldiers were patrolling on three motorcles along a road in Ban Tanyong village.

As they passed a rubber plantation, a home-made bomb planted at the foot of a roadside tree was detonated.  The explosion hit Chief Warrant Officer Pongpitak Siripreechapan, the patrol leader, and Pvt Suriya Changbut, seriously wounding both of them.

Pvt Suriya later died at Bacho Hospital.  CWO Pongpitak was transferred to Narathiwat Ratchanakarin Hospital to treatment.
