Bomb kills one, wounds 5 rangers in Yala

YALA -- A ranger was killed and five others wounded in a bomb explosion in Yaha district on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at about 7.50am while rangers from Ranger Company 4708 were patrolling near Ban Khlae in tambon Baro.

Sergeant Tuanku Asi Bonbang, 27, was killed instantly. The other injured volunteer rangers are Saksek Ketrak, 41; Theerapong Kaewsuwan, 27; Surasak Suwanparn, 38; Suthas Luangsri, 35; and Kasem Kaewsalua, 27.

Three of the wounded were admitted to Yala Hospital and the other two to Yala Hospital.

An investigation revealed that all the personnel were military engineers who helped build a house for Bidor Dorloh under the project to assist the poor. They have worked at the site for five consecutive days.

An explosive ordnance disposal team found it was a homemade bomb, weighing about 10 kilogramme, which was planted on a roadside and detonated when the patrol passing the spot.
