Thailand's singles players Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul and Jirat Navasirisomboon are confident of winning their respective matches today when they take on hosts Kuwait in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group 2 first round.
The matches will be played at the Kuwait Tennis Federation Centre, Meshref.
The official draw of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group 2 first round clash was held yesterday.
Thailand No.2 Jirat faces Kuwait's top player Abdullah Maqdes, ranked No.1,298 in the world, in today's first singles match. Jirat is ranked No.997 in the world.
In the second singles match today, Thailand No.1 Wishaya, who is ranked No.773 in the world, meets Kuwait No.2 Mohammad Ghareeb.
For the doubles action tomorrow, experienced twins Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana will meet Kuwaiti duo of Maqdes and Ghareeb.
In the reverse singles on Sunday, Wisaya will take on Maqdes, while Jirat will clash with Ghareeb.
Vitthaya Sumrej, the Thai team captain, said: "The weather here is colder than Thailand so the players have been advised to keep themselves warm and to warm-up well before their matches.
"We will take things on a match-by-match basis, but we are keen to claim all the five points and to keep our record clean against Kuwait."
Jirat, who is playing in the Davis Cup for the first time, said: "Maqdes has more experience. However, from what I have seen so far, he does not have any aggressive strokes. I will play according to the coach's plan and am confident of getting the first point for the team."
Wishaya said: "I lost to Ghareeb four years ago in the Davis Cup. At that time, I lacked experience and he is a difficult player to beat. I will play aggressively and try not to pressure myself."
Thailand hold a 4-0 advantage over Kuwait in their head-to-head record.
