Englishman Jason Withe became the latest Thai League 1 coach to lose his job when he submitted his resignation to bottom-placed Super Power Samut Prakan management yesterday.
Super Power have stayed put in the relegation zone since the beginning of this year's league and reached the halfway mark of the season pinned to the foot of the table with only one point from 17 matches so far.
Super Power team manager Pisit Hemmachan announced yesterday: "We would like to confirm that our head coach, Jason Withe, has decided to resign to shoulder responsibility for the team's poor performance during the first leg of the season.
"Withe was contractually obliged to help the team earn more rankings points than what we have now.
"While it had become clear to us some time ago that Jason could not deliver what we expected of him, we gave him the chance to improve the team's fortunes by the end of the first leg."
Pisit added: "We would like to thank Jason and his team for being with us. Meanwhile, the board has decided to appoint Apisit Khaikaew as the new head coach of the team till the end of the season."
Meanwhile, SCG Muang Thong United play their last Thai League 1 first leg match against Chiang Rai United today, hoping to join Buriram United at the top.
The match will be played at the SCG Stadium at 7pm.
Muang Thong coach Totchtawan Sripan said: "It will be another tough game for us because our players are tired from playing in the AFC Champions League.
"We have to check on the fitness of all players and but we plan to name playmaker Chanathip Songkrasin in the starting line-up because we will be going for a win in this match."
Team captain Teerasil Dangda said: "We are all feeling disappointed with our recent results. There is still a long way to go, so we must look ahead and work hard. We have to forget the previous matches. I still believe that we can regain our form."
Muang Thong lost three matches in a row in the Thai league, allowing bitter rivals Buriram United to erase a seven-point deficit and take over the top spot.
Today's game presents Muang Thong with the opportunity to snap their six-game losing streak -- three of their defeats have come in the AFC Champions League -- and earn a tie with Buriram United, who have 37 points from 17 matches.
