The Football Association of Thailand will make a ruling next week if Thai Premier League champions Buriram PEA can change their name to Buriram United.
Buriram PEA chairman Newin Chidchob has taken full control of the club after he recently bought the reamaing stakes from Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA).
Newin has announced that Buriram PEA will merge with First Division champions Buriram FC and will become Buriram United.
Buriram FC's right to play in the TLP next season has been given to Songkhla FC.
FAT president Worawi Makudi said yesterday the governing body needed more papers from Buriram PEA to determine if they can change the name to Buriram United.
The FAT is expected to announce its decision next week, he said.
Also, the FAT will consider if Songkhla FC are eligible to play in the top flight.
Meanwhile, the TPL trophy will be presented to Buriram PEA after they play Chiang Rai United at Mae Fah Luang stadium on Jan 28.
Worawi said he had invited English Premier League chairman Sir David Richards to be a special guest at the match.
