Muay Thai superstar Buakaw Por Pramuk has gone missing, leading to his two upcoming fights being cancelled.
Manager links Buakaw’s ‘interest in women’ to his disappearance.
Buakaw, arguably the best known Muay Thai fighter in the international arena, has been absent from his training camp since Monday, his manager Pramuk Rochanatan said yesterday.
Pramuk said he might have disappeared because of a "personal problem" and not financial troubles.
Pramuk, who has been unable to contact the boxer, said he did not know his whereabouts.
"But I am quite sure that it is not about money," said the manager.
"He should not have financial problems because he has earned quite large sums. This might have something to do with women."
The Surin native's fee is about 1.2 million baht a fight which, according to Pramuk, is split 50:50 between the fighter and his handlers.
Buakaw had been due to travel to Japan with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra this week for an exhibition bout but he could not be reached just before the trip.
His scheduled fight in France next week and an exhibition match in England have been cancelled, said Pramuk.
"It's a pity because he stood to get about 2 million baht from the two fights," Pramuk said.
It is unclear whether Buakaw will be able to take part in the Thai Fight tournament in Pattaya next month.
