Locals attempt to qualify in Pattaya

Three Thai players will be in action in the qualification round of the PTT Pattaya Open, which begins today at the Dusit Thani hotel.

Ana Ivanovic, left, and Daniela Hantuchova arrive at the airport in Bangkok.

Kotcha Nattawadee will face American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the first match, before Nudnida Luangnam takes on Latvias Anastasija Sevastova. Lastly, former junior Wimbledon champion Noppawan Lertcheewakarn will meet Australia's Anastasia Rodionova.

Noppawan has struggled in her previous appearances at the Pattaya Open, having never advanced beyond the first round, but the Chiang Mai native insisted this may be the year she breaks through.

"I know that in this tournament, I have never made it to the second round of the main draw,' she said. "This year, I am ready and will try my best to do it."
