Pattaya is an ideal place to host a Formula One race, its mayor, Itthiphol Khunpluem, said Monday.
Bangkok was originally selected to host Thailand's first Grand Prix in 2015 but the plan was shelved after protests by residents and environmentalists.
Stakeholders are looking for a new venue with Phuket and Phetchaburi among the candidates.
Itthiphol said Pattaya would be a good choice because it is a world-renowned resort town which hosts many motorsport events every year.
"We are interested in hosting the F1," he said.
"We have enough accommodation. It is not far from Bangkok. It is near the sea so it would be convenient for transportation of equipment.
"We plan to submit our letter of intention to the Tourism and Sports Ministry by July 12."
