Moyes includes Zaha on tour of Asia

Van Persie to miss Bangkok friendly

England winger Wilfried Zaha will play a part in Manchester United's pre-season tour of Asia and Australia which begins today when they arrive in Bangkok, manager David Moyes said yesterday.

However, Dutch striker Robin van Persie will miss the first leg of the tour in Bangkok, according to the squad list obtained by the Bangkok Post yesterday.

Van Persie, who played for the Netherlands in a post-season trip to Indonesia and China, will meet up with Moyes in Sydney next week, the list said.

Goalkeeper David De Gea, who helped Spain win the European Under-21 Championship last month, is also expected to join his United teammates in Australia.

Following his international duty at the Confederations Cup, Japan's Shinji Kagawa will miss the Bangkok and Sydney legs and will be with the team when they travel to his home country.

Mexico striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez and defender Nemanja Vidic are not on the list.

"Kagawa will meet us in Japan and be involved there. Hernandez isn't going to come out because he's just finished with the Confederations Cup. He'll go back to the Aon Training Complex and prepare there," Moyes told United website.

United are scheduled to arrive in Bangkok this morning for their first stop and will play a friendly with the Singha All-Stars at Rajamangala National Stadium on Saturday.

The Red Devils are scheduled to arrive at Don Mueang airport at 8:30am and some of their officials and players will go straight to Siriraj hospital to sign a get-well book for Their Majesties the King and the Queen.

During their stay, they will conduct several football clinics. They will leave for Sydney on Saturday night after the match.

After Sydney, the Enlgish Premier League champions will visit Yokohama, Osaka and Hong Kong.

Ivory Coast-born Zaha, the final signing by Moyes' predecessor Alex Ferguson before his retirement at the end of last season, joined United this week for his first training session.

United have in the past loaned out promising youngsters to other teams to gain experience and there was speculation that the 20-year-old, who has yet to play in the Premier League, might return for a spell at previous club Crystal Palace.

Palace boss Ian Holloway has effectively ruled that out and Moyes indicated the once-capped youngster was part of his plans.

"He will travel with us on the tour," he told talkSPORT radio before United's departure to Thailand yesterday.

"He has only been with us for two days but I will take him away, see how he goes and have a look. This club has a great record of putting young players in the team. Hopefully Wilfried can be one of them."

Moyes reiterated that England striker Wayne Rooney, also on the tour, was not for sale and would not be leaving United.

"I have met Wayne two, three, four times. A lot has been said about myself and Wayne over the years but we have a really good relationship," said the Scot, who was manager of Everton when Rooney began his career at that club.

"He is training great. They are telling me it is the best shape they have seen him in for a long time... I am going to try and get the best Wayne Rooney I possibly can."

With interest in both Everton left-back Leighton Baines and Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara seemingly cooled in the past week, Moyes also confirmed that work had not stopped on improving the squad ahead of the new season.

United are expected to submit an improved offer for Baines, while they remain interested in Thiago as his future at the Nou Camp remains unclear.

"Don't be kidded because there is a bit of a lack of activity," the manager said. "Take it from me, we are working hard behind the scenes to try and improve the squad.

"I won't talk about players at other clubs, but I can tell you we are out there trying to do some business."
