Buriram victory secures title

Jirawat and Ibanez score to ensure win

Buriram United on Sunday claimed the Thailand Premier League title for the second time in three years after they beat Bangkok United 2-0 at the Thai-Japan stadium.

Newin Chidchob took over former league champions PEA in 2010 and moved them to his home province.

In only their second year under Newin in 2011, Buriram swept all three major domestic titles.

In the first half, Buriram were well-contained by the Bangkok United defence. But only three minutes into the second half, they took the lead, Jirawat Makkrarom's free-kick finding the net. Buriram appeared to relax and added a second through Osmar Ibanez.

Elsewhere, BEC Tero Sasana drew 2-2 with runners-up Muang Thong United. Teerasil Dangda put Muang Thong ahead 1-0 lead in the 25th minute before BEC equalised through Vichaya Dechmitr shortly after half-time.

BEC then went ahead through Chanathip Songkrasin before Mario Gjurovski equalised for Muang Thong.

In other matches, Chonburi beat Samut Songkhram 4-0, while Bangkok Glass defeated Chainat 2-1.

Army United won 1-0 against Osotspa M-150 Saraburi and Ratchaburi beat Insee Police United by the same margin.

Chiang Rai United beat Pattaya United 1-0 _ TOT SC also beat Songkhla United 1-0.
