Thailand suffer friendly defeat against China

China beat Thailand 3-0 in a friendly in Wuhan yesterday.

With only 15 players, the Thais were out of sorts against the Chinese, who suffered a 5-1 home loss to Thailand in a friendly last year.

Thailand's U23 side also defeated China 2-0 in the recent Asian Games.

At Wuhan, Thailand held China to a scoreless draw in the first half.

Zhang Chengdong opened the scoring after 61 minutes. Sun Ke made it 2-0 in the 84th minute and Yang Xu completed the rout three minutes from time.

In Niigata, an own goal by Nyron Nosworthy allowed Japan to beat Jamaica 1-0 in a friendly giving Javier Aguirre his first win as their coach.

Jamaica were guilty of poor defending from the outset, and Nosworthy deflected the ball into his own net in the 16th minute.

In his first two games in charge last month, Aguirre's Japan lost 2-0 to Uruguay and drew 2-2 with Venezuela.

"I feel calm, relaxed as always," Aguirre said after yesterday's game. "We created five or six more chances to score, which was pleasing."

In Cheonan, first-half goals from Kim Min-Woo and Nam Tae-Hee gave Uli Stielike a comfortable 2-0 win against Paraguay in his first game in charge of South Korea in a friendly.

Kim and Nam managed their first international goals within four minutes of each other, boosting South Korea in their preparations for the Asian Cup in January.

Stielike was appointed last month, and the former West Germany and Real Madrid midfielder will have been delighted with a slick and aggressive attacking performance from the Koreans who are rebounding from a disappointing World Cup.

"It was a very exciting game, and we showed a lot of attacking football," Stielike said. "It was the kind of game that could have finished 6-3." bangkok post/agencies
