Spurs 2, Arsenal 1

LONDON — Harry Kane was the man of the match for Tottenham Hotspur, scoring twice to give them a 2-1 comeback win over Arsenal in a fiercely contested London derby at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

The win lifts Spurs into a tie with Manchester United for third place, one point ahead of Arsenal, pending the outcome of the Reds' visit to West Ham on Sunday. Spurs are now undefeated in seven straight Barclays Premier League contests with five wins and two draws.

Mesut Ozil drew first blood for the visitors after just 11 minutes. After Olivier Giroud attempted a shot on goal that instead skittered across the box, Ozil steered it home.

Spurs created some decent chances in the first half but it took them until the 56th minute to get on the board. Kane scored his first goal after pouncing on a ball that had been parried by Arsenal keeper David Ospina from a corner kick.

Kane's winning strike was a superb header of a long ball that had been steered into the box by Nabil Bentaleb in the 86th minute.

In 34 matches in all competitions this season, the 21-year-old London-born forward, a Spurs fan from childhood, now has 22 goals, including 12 in the Premier League.
