Local cab app in the pipeline

SAMUT PRAKAN - Three local taxi companies and a software developer plan to launch a cab-hailing application in October that can be used around the country.

The announcement of the move came from taxi operators Mitsib Leasing, Mena Leasing and ThaiAce Leasing and application developer Maya Wizard Co.

Natcha Yongsa-nguanchai, deputy chief executive of Mitsib Leasing, told the press at his company in Muang district on Wednesday that the taxi operators had been in business for a long time and planned an application for nationwide use to compete with international players.

He said with the new application passengers would be able to call taxis around the clock and end the concerns about whether taxi drivers would reject them on the roadside.

Their trips would be always monitored by a control centre that would make use of a global positioning system, he said.

Anusorn Krasantisuk, managing director of Maya Wizard, said his company had been developing applications for more than a decade and the new cab-hailing app would end disputes between taxi drivers and passengers.

The company was developing the new app and planned to launch it in October, he said, without elaborating on it or showing a sample picture of what the app would look like.
