Kasetsart opposes expressway route

Kasetsart University has submitted an objection to an expressway expansion plan that it says would endanger its historic campus area, and has suggested an alternative route.

Yellow dotted line is the current plan in which the expressway runs above Ngam Wong Wan Road. Blue dotted line is the route proposed by Kasetsart University, along Bang Khen canal. The campus is on the left inside the red outline.

All academic actually. Undoubtedly huge sums of money have been spent on the original
study and some "important insiders" have had time to buy up adjoining property which they can sell back to the government at 3/4 times what they paid for it so.... original plan wins !
Personally I'd like to see any change and a boat load of "investors" stuck with worthless land.

KU is one of Thailand's major agricultural schools and has a number of experimental projects running on the campus. It's also the site of the Bangkok Aquarium. That being said, it's hardly "historic", is like many other uni campuses and is in such a built up area, that I don't think it matters where the expressway goes.

"The expressway would be 28 metres high and would block important landscapes which were very sentimental for the Kasetsart alumni and other people in the area."
What landscape? The old shop houses across the road?
Kasetsart University Rector Wuttichai failed to see the large concrete pilings on Kaset-Nawamin rd; still waiting for a highway to be built on top and connecting Bangken to the entire city expressway network. Moving it to the other side of the campus doesn't make any sense. As much as I'd hate to see another concrete sky there, the benefit of a highway in Kaset outweigh the loss of landscape.

Kasetsart is a green campus, something that is rather unusual in Bangkok.

D1 : Maybe it is but do you think the politicians would listen if he stated educational or health concerns as reasons to relocate the route?

Kasetsart University is a historic campus? Is this a joke?
