Expressway toll to rise in Bangkok

The expressway authority will support a five baht increase in the toll for the Chalerm Maha Nakhon Expressway (route 1) and Si Rat Expressway (route 2) in September this year, Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) governor Aiyanat Tinarpai said on Monday.

The new rates would be: 45 to 50 baht for four-wheel vehicles, 70 to 80 baht for vehicles with six to 10 wheels, and 100 to 115 baht for vehicles with more than 10 wheels.

Mr Aiyanat said EXAT and Bangkok Expressway Public Co Ltd (BECL) are to begin negotiations on the increase in March.

Hi fine prices go up, so should security at poll booths as today I was extorted of 3000 baht by traffic cop for using a uk driving licence, which I thought could be used in Thailand for 3 months . If I am mistaken I apologise and have all ready be rebuked by my thai wife for not just handing over licences and appearing at police station, but this corruption by police affecting Thais to. All law enforcement here have extremely tough jobs for little reward but actions like this reduces there worth surely making it more difficult to improve their lot when they are so little respected

Well, you want to use your car, you should pay for it. Of course public transport should be improved but I have no sympathy for the majority of drivers.

High tax for driving through downtownBangkok, Singapore style, would be more appropriate.

Ridiculous. Express ways surfaces are poor quality. Hazardously built. Less and less toll booths are open for ever increasing traffic. Service going down, while prices are increasing faster than inflation.
    Highway robbery!!! Monopoly!!

What about expats? Shouldn't it be twice the price?

Why should the rate of inflation affect tollway fees? How have the tollways authorities expenses risen? This sounds to me like a case of we're putting up the toll because we can.

The expressway people should be responsible to build park space under all their expressways where possible .

They raise the express toll in the last two years from 40 to 45 baht, and now 45 to 50 that's 10 baht in less than three years. Inflation is not that high. Plus we are paying more money to sit in traffic. Make some improvements to relive traffic congestion.
