Union representatives on Monday handed over a letter rejecting their former chairman to caretaker Finance Minister Kittiratt Na Ranong at the Finance Ministry.
The union also issued a statement accusing Mr Ampon of interfering with the airline's operations, especially his appointment of incompetent officials close to him to take key positions at the company. They also blamed Mr Ampon for putting THAI's balance sheets in the red.
The union will hold a rally at THAI's headquarters on Wednesday and its website message posted on Saturday urged the airline's staff to show their stand to the new chairman, ACM Prajin Juntong, who will chair his first meeting on that day.
ACM Prajin succeeded Mr Ampon on March 10. But Mr Ampon, who was THAI's chairman for five years, is still a board member. The union opposed a decision to renew his board membership after the term expires on April 29.
THAI suffered net losses of about 13 billion last year against net profits of 4.42 billion baht in 2012, according to the airline's website.
