Emirates is boosting services to Thailand with a 57% capacity increase on the Phuket-Dubai route.

The fast-growing airline will add four weekly flights to its existing non-stop daily flight serving the city-pair, starting on Dec 1.

The additional Phuket-Dubai service becomes part of Emirates' expanded coverage of Thailand to coincide with the forthcoming high season.

The incremental increase in Phuket-Dubai flights will begin at the same time that the Dubai-based airline introduces a fourth daily flight between Dubai and Bangkok using the double-decker superjumbo A380.

Emirates will deploy long-range Boeing 777-300ER jets for the additional Phuket-Dubai flights.

The new flights will introduce connectivity from major cities in the Americas for the first time, as well as improve connections to a number of key destinations in Europe and the Middle East via one convenient stop in Dubai.

Adding a further four weekly flights highlights the desirability of Phuket as a destination and healthy demand from passengers wishing to travel with the airline, said Emirates executive vice-president Thierry Antinori.

"Since the launch in 2012, Phuket has been a solid success story for Emirates," he said.

Jabr Al-Azeeby, Emirates' country manager for Thailand and Indochina, said the additional flights were great news for holiday markets and an important support for travel and tourist companies that see value in direct flights to Phuket.

"The additional flights make it even more convenient for residents in the southern part of Thailand to connect to Dubai and the rest of the world," he said.

Emirates now operates two types of aeroplanes on its six daily Bangkok-Dubai flights, split evenly between A380s and B777-300ERs.

But the number of A380 flights on the route will rise to four beginning on Dec 1, while the B777-300ER will be used for only two.

The changeover will boost the carrier's daily seat capacity for the city-pair from 2,693 at present to 2,948, the greatest volume between the Persian Gulf and Thailand.
