Korean Air (KAL) will increase its superjumbo capacity on the Incheon-Bangkok route to cater to surging winter travel demand. The airline will introduce a fourth daily service between the two cities to be served by an A380 double-decker jet.
The fourth daily flight and deployment of the megajet will apply only between Dec 19 and March 2, when more Thais go to South Korea for holidays and Koreans try to escape the cold.
KAL officials said strong demand on the route would enable it to fill an average of 90% of the seats during the period.
The A380 debut makes KAL the second Korean carrier to deploy the superjumbo jet on the route after Asiana Airlines earlier this year. Emirates, Thai Airways International and Qatar Airways also use A380s on flights through Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport.
KAL's A380 is configured with 407 seats -- 12 in first class, 94 in business and 301 in economy -- and equipped with what it has branded as the world's first on-board duty-free shop as well as a bar and lounge.
