Will this be a Happy or Sorry 2013?

In his New Year broadcast from Siriraj Hospital at 8am on Tuesday Jan 1, His Majesty the King expressed the wish that Thais show compassion and affinity towards one another.

His Majesty conveyed his desire that the people bind together as families and friends to bring happiness and prosperity for themselves and the nation. This was very gracious of His Majesty, who always shows compassion and concern for the welfare of the people.

His Majesty the King has called on all Thais to extend compassion to others as a way to lead a happy life, in the royal New Year’s greeting card.

Mr. Voranai; indeed "Nothing changes on New years day"

excellent article as usual. In my opinion a bit soft. The dysfunction of Thailand does not get solved by being nice with each other. This is not a democracy but a pathetic theater, this are not politicians but clan leaders and puppets. No one to vote for. As far as this medieval mentality is alive, Thailand has no understandable voice in a global world, is an island getting more rotten every day. All Thais with a bit of brain know that... I just try to do my life...is the only answer I get when I ask around. SANUK ( seriously)

Obtaining democracy with equal rights, freedoms and liberties for all via a power transformation is not always a bed of roses. Thailand is in the infant stages and it will take time so get use to the ugly until things mature.

Khun Voranai, once again youve hit the nail on the head but sadly i personally believe that there is so much hatred between these two groups of yellows and Reds i think its a hard task.It would be great for Thailand but ive studied this fiasco from the beginning and its been too ugly to heal over night.Goodluck to Thailand.

Vorani, As usual you are spot on. Too bad and too sad that we are talking about Thailand. Thai's don't do anything against the grain because 'oh my gosh' what will my friends think. They are much more in their comfort zone doing and saying nothing.

Khun Voranai, you have wrapped up Thailand in a nutshell.

    Voranai, you clever cookie!
You transform wish list to do list to not to do list to not to misuse lese majeste law.
    Cool!

It is logical to have to do list instead wishing list. Wishing upon a star is not real but Thais are dreamers. You can keep dreams alive but to be realstic you have to do things along with your dream, otherwise your dreams remain forever dreams.

A wise article, but unfortunately naive. This country is the epitome of dysfunction. Don't vote for corrupt politicians...hahaha...nobody to vote for. How about a politician, anywhere in Thailand, who works for the people, who protects the people, the poor, the lower classes...sorry, nobody out there. They're all corrupt and only get into politics to enrich their personal fortunes.
