Thanks for the support

I wish to thank Martin R (Postbag, Jan 1) for proving Steve Gordon's point (Postbag, Dec 30) that my critics have to resort to personal attacks and nastiness to compensate for the fact that they have absolutely no intellect.

The fact that Martin has to constantly stoop to this level to get his letters published indicates that he's the one who craves attention and is willing to make a fool out of himself in order to get it.

On more than one occasion I've been asked if I pay my critics to write these letters since their letters make me look so smart. No dear readers, my critics really are this stupid and no one has to bribe them to share their ignorance with us.

For most westerners in Europe or North America, Thailand is an exotic third world country very unlike their own home. Is it surprising that some drinks are served differently and that TV is not very appealing to viewers used to more channels than I can count to? Remember where you are guys, there are still people here who have never had hot water out of a tap!

Guy, they make iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk. That's why you can't get it unsweetened!

You'd be hard pressed to find any prepared foods in Thailand which don't have lots of sugar or lots of MSG.

Comments #1, 2, and 4: I believe Guy Baker's letter was a bit sarcastic. I found it hilarious. The best part was that it was published along with Eric Bahrt, tooting his own horn as usual. I thought the combination was well-planned.

Today's letters are what we call 'slow news day' in media speak. Have we got nothing better to complain about or point out to the BP reading public? Eric Bahrt is beginning to rival Thaksin in hogging the news, that's something eh?

Guy, I feel so sorry for you. As a small piece of advice, may I urge you to improve your communication skills. I must have been lucky all those years to get coffee and Phad Thai without any sugar......

People are most certainly feeling the effects of rising prices, corruption, etc., but they are still too apathetic to complain about it. Also, they are too busy trying to make ends meet to complain. As the politicians know, Thais are so easily fooled by the promises that they make, such as they will solve this or that problem within (6) months, for example. Aren't all poor Thais meant to be well off with credit card in hand within 2 or 3 years and even a car and a house to boot? Something like that anyway. But the Thais believe it will happen ... one day really soon. The politicians are just laughing all the way to the off-shore bank.
