No morality in opposing abortion

Let me be direct. When you say you are against abortion because it's sinful, it's not your morality talking, it's your misogyny.

In other words, you're not driven by compassion, but by a hate for women who you think stray from the "good girl" norms.

Sorry for being blunt. But when nearly 1,000 women in Thailand die each year because your opposition has been preventing them from having access to safe abortions, it's necessary to ask why you're allowing your righteousness to take other people's lives.

    Kalid,
Abortion cases need not be legalized US-style. It should be denied to the general population especially the minors. Unwanted pregnancies could and should be avoided. The issue could be compared to "preventive medicine" known in Asia. Health-care and its enormous budget would be better off if the citizens are healthy. Similar to medical conditions abortion could be treated like major surgeries that need approval and signatures from responsible parties and only in cases that there is actual danger to the mother's health. Abortion should not be for all without justified reasons beyond unwise lust.

It is absurd to suggest there is a profit motive in Abortions in the USA. Few wealthy women have abortions. It is the poor unmarried jobless women who needs the abortion the most. Many Doctors in the US perform them as a humanitarian service at great risk to their own well-being. Many clinics have been bombed, and many doctors have been murdered by anti-abortion zealots. Fortunately, the FBI has gotten involved, and occurences of violence have been reduced. The heart of the issue is economics: these women cannot afford to have babies, and unless the "morally superior" in Thailand offer an alternative, illegal abortions will be performed.

    Ad hominem . . .

Doza has obviously never set foot in Thailand. Nothing else can explain such totally false notions about how Buddhism operates in Thailand and how Thai Buddhists behave.

His beliefs do, however, have a perfectly consistent level of accuracy.

    Kalid,

Let Thailand be protected from foreign interference. You clearly stated that the abortion issue in USA is steeped in politics -- and likely profits. In Thailand the heart of the issue is morality. Why would Thailand allow itself to be a "collateral" victim?

As President Bill Clinton said: "Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare." No one likes abortion; having it illegal only makes the problem worse. A woman knows if she has the resources to raise a child or not. Attempting to force her to do so is inhumane, to the woman, and the child.

I applaud Sanitsuda Ekachai, it took a lot of work to legalize abortion in the US, and even today, many men in the republican party are trying to make it more difficult to obtain one. They could make it illegal again, they have packed the US Supreme Court with 5 ultra-"conservatives", but they won't, it would cost them too many votes.

Real Thai Buddhists respect life. Come to Thailand and look around. Most of them would not even step on an ant to crush it because it is a sentient being. What a touching view on life and nature if properly understood. I hope foreign weird thinking would not corrupt Thai Buddhism, especially the cruelty of abortion in exchange for desire and lust for sex.

an utterly flawed arguement on practically every point

you cannot guilt trip someone who is against it in principle for religious reasons. It doesnt matter if they are buddist, muslim, christian, whatever.

To try and blame deaths of women on it is equally absud.

I was suprised you didnt claim women accidentally tripped and fell on a penis

both men and women need to take responsibilty for their actions, blaming others, or society, or laws, or men is simply beyond reasoning. If a man and a women arent responsible enough to care for a child then they should take precautions. If they arent smart enough to do that then they shouldnt h

Re Disc. 28. Thai men should act responsibly, that would be a first. I have no views on abortion as such but I'm male it has nothing to do with me. It should be the womaans decision alone.

@28, Musashi. Of course, whenever possible, both sexual partners must share the responsibility and jointly make the conscious decision. However, in the absence of such scenario, the salient point of aborting an unwanted / unplanned pregnancy is to save any future complication for the mother / child so that she may continue live her life. Again, no child will want to be born into this earthly world only to breathe as human beings but without the proper parental care and guidance. The future well being of the unborn child must be factored into the consideration; sometimes one has to be cruel in order to be kind.
