Postbag: 'Neigh' to you, Crutch

Re: ''They're flogging a dead horse in Europe'' (Sunday Post, Feb 17).

The Old Crutch is right when he says, ''But in Britain people simple don't eat horses,'' referring to the current scandal of horse meat being sold in Europe.

But you need to uncurl your British stiff upper lip, Roger, for indeed the Brits, when push came to shove, certainly did eat horses.

It would appear that Thais are finally discovering what a mess they have created in Bangkok. So why do people press ahead to make other cities in the same style; i.e. Chiang Mai?

Regarding the race for governor, Kuldeep Nagi mentions he/she, as a foreigner, is not allowed to vote. My sister lives in Spain, where she is entitled to vote in local elections. Why not, when local issues affect her as much as the Spaniards. Can you imagine the Thais ever allowing such a logical thing to occur in Bangkok? It will snow there first.

David Brown / "Neigh to you" I too was in the UK (London) during the war and I clearly remember my mother buying - and cooking - horse meat . . . much to my father's disgust! It was, as I remember, fairly pink and had a sweetish taste. Hqwever, Crutch is basically correct in that we would never have eaten it given any sort of reasonable choice. It took a World war and Nazi bombs to help us swallow our objections to this meat.

The BMA spaying and neutering stray dogs would solve the problem of street dogs .So would people taking care of one afterwards .The governor needs full power over the city to perform his job properly .This is common sense and is practiced around the world .

Charlie Brown: Look on the bright side. Rice exports are only down 25% on the same (already bad) February period last year. It could be worse. In all fairness, I'm sure that the Ministers are not stupid. They know what will work and what won't. But the impression I get is that in a Thaksin government a Minister knows that as long as he carries out the daily orders from Dubai like a robot, and doesn't question them, he will not be thrown off the Gravy Train, which is a politician's sad reason for living. I wonder if they are happy people.
