Make India safe to save its reputation

This week in Singapore, a young woman told me how she had put off a long-dreamed of trip to India.

"I'd been hoping to go for a spiritual retreat but then there was all that stuff with the rape case," she said. "So instead, I planned a trip with my family to Thailand. On Tuesday, she hopped on a plane to Bangkok.

I've no idea how many people have felt the same way as the young woman I spoke to. But India's image has taken a pounding since the Dec 16 gang-rape in Delhi in which a young woman was assaulted and beaten so savagely she died two weeks later. Her male companion narrowly survived.
