Its not everyone's idea of fun but if you dont enjoy it stay away and do you normally do on this holiday. Ive been twice, once in BKK and once in Koh Chang to the festival and found it great and colorful and all age groups were having fun, when I had enough I came away. Now I go to the temple and meet my Thai family and after visit my wifes relations and not one bucket of water thrown at the car. In everyday life there will be incidents of some kind so lets not get annoyed with those who are having fun. I accept The Snarks comment about someones stupid action but come on you cant hold that against everyone

9 days is way too much and of course so many people ruin a good festival. Sorry, Thailand, you have lost control and the real meaning of this festival

Thailand's Songkran is tame compared to Lao Songkran.
