GH Bank has admitted that it might miss its mortgage loans target this year, as buyers remain reluctant to spend money on housing.
With seven months still to go for the calendar year, bank president Chatchai Sirilai said on Wednesday the bank is adjusting its mortgage plan after figures from the first five months looked tepid.
Housing loans approved by the state-run bank from January to May accounted for 50 billion baht. The bank needs to lend around 18 billion baht every month for the rest of the year to achieve the 170-billion-baht projection, he said.
Mr Chatchai said this would be an uphill task, and pointed to reluctant home buyers as the problem.
Buyers remain undecided and hope for new incentives from banks or the government to help shore up the property sector, he added.
