1,812 arrests in Bangkok over 9 days

The Metropolitan Police Bureau arrested a total of 1,812 suspects and seized 144 firearms in Bangkok during a crackdown over nine days from Nov 12-20, according to deputy commissioner Pol Maj Gen Anuchai Lekbamrung.

He said 1,676 were drug offenders and another 136 were suspects wanted on arrest warrants.

Two war weapons, 41 registered small arms, 30 unregistered weapons and 71 Thai-made guns were seized in these arrests.

The bureau is focusing on getting firearms off the streets because there have been many gun-related crimes recently, Pol Maj Gen Anuchai added.

Suspects in burglaries were also caught with many stolen items in Bang Sue district, and a patrol unit seized large numbers of firearms.

Bangkok police are planning to distribute posters of the "most wanted" suspects to all precincts in the capital and surrounding areas.
