Boonsong facing rice scheme probe

The National Anti-Corruption Commission has decided to set up two subcommittees to investigate Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom for alleged irregularities in the government's rice-pledging scheme, NACC member Klanarong Chanthik said on Tuesday.

Mr Klanarong said the commission was responding to complaints filed with the NACC by Warong Dejkijwikrom, a Democrat Party MP for Phitsanulok, and other people.

The complaints and evidence attached to them carried enough weight for the NACC to set up two subcommittees to investigate Mr Boonsong.

If other people were later found to be involved, they would be summoned for questioning.

Information on alleged corruption in the rice-pledging scheme given by Mr Warong and other MPs during the no-confidence debate would also be taken for consideration, he said.

Today's meeting of the NACC also decided to set up a subcommittee to investigate a petition seeking the removal of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat over alleged irregularities in the transfer of high-level officers of the Defence Ministry, Mr Klanarong said.
