‘Sonamu’ storm heading for South

The Public Health Ministry has prepared 12 southern provinces for tropical storm "Sonamu" which is forecast to reach Thailand by Wednesday.

Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong said on Monday he had ordered provincial and local hospital directors to prepare for possible flooding so that the public can receive 24-hour medical services.

Mobile medical teams were also assembled in case of an emergency. Any one in need of assistance can call 1669.

Public health permanent secretary Narong Sahamethapat said he had ordered the ministry’s emergency division to closely monitor the situation and prepare the communication network.

The ministry has also prepared 13 teams of emergency field medics and has pressed every southern province to have a surplus of medicines at hand.

The ministry has contacted the relatives of patients who are recovering at home, the disabled, elderly, children and pregnant women ahead of time so that they can be immediately transferred in case of an emergency.

The hospital will send out teams of volunteers to assist households with patients that are unable to travel to a hospital.
