1 dead, 3 hurt in underage driver crash

Police said a fatal accident involving an unlicensed, underage driver occurred early Thursday morning in front of the Appeals Court on Ratchadapisk Road in Chatuchak district of Bangkok.

Investigators and emergency workers found a blue Toyota with both its front and rear ends completely smashed in. Nearby was the body of Palapol Wongsila, 20, lying dead on the road. He suffered a broken left arm and a skull injury.

About 100 metres away, a green Toyota which had been involved in an accident was parked on the road island. The driver was nowhere to be seen.

Three injured teenagers were taken to Mayo hospital. They were later identified as Peerapol Bunnag, 17, the underage driver of the blue car, and two passengers, Abhisit Satueba, 17, and Sakkasem Larpjit, 18. All were now out of danger.

According to witnesses, the two vehicles were racing down from Ladprao Intersection overpass at high speed. They swerved into each other, and the blue Toyota then spun out into an electricity pole. Palapol was thrown out of the car.

The driver of the green car fled the scene. The police were now checking on the cars'  owners and questioning the injured.
