Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong has played down fears of a flu epidemic that has sickened more than 19,000 people in the United States spreading to Thailand.

Dr Pradit said on Monday that about 100,000 doses of flu vaccine were currently available in Thailand and 400,000 more doses would be available in the next three months.
The flu epidemic in the US was a seasonal flu that can be prevented by vaccination, he said.
There were 61,290 flu patients in Thailand last year, and three of them died.
The minister said 144 flu patients had been reported in Thailand since the beginning of the year.
There is no evidence of an epidemic similar to that in the US emerging in Thailand, he said.
