PM orders review of CCTV spots

Security agencies have been ordered to work together in deciding where to install closed-circuit television security cameras to make sure they are not repeatedly destroyed, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

The prime minister said she had been briefede on the torching of 76 CCTVs in Yala on Sunday night.

Replacement CCTV cameras should not be installed at the same spots, to prevent them from being repeatedly destroyed,  because they are necessary for security surveillance.

All agencies involved in acquiring new security cameras should together make the decision on where to place them.

There were still loopholes, particularly lack of manpower and coordination, which had lead to the recurring  attacks, she said.

On Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung's announcement that the attacks were related to a business conflict over bidding for installation of CCTV cameras, not an insurgent attack, the prime minister said this was still being investigated.
