Jakarta airport bomb scare

The bomb squad has cordoned off an area at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after an X-ray discovered a package, suspected of holding a bomb used for blast fishing, that contained tubes, cables and nails.

Police discovered the suspicious package at the airport's post office on Friday, Sr Comr Chairul Nur Alamsyah, Jakarta police's head of operations, told the Antara news agency.

The area has since been cordoned off to allow the bomb squad to check the package.

An airport police spokesman told tempointeraktif.com that the package was sent from Pekalongan on the northern coast of Central Java by land, with Papua, on the western half of the island of New Guinea, its intended final destination.

The spokesman said he suspected the package contained a fish bomb.
