Kamnan Poh now in prison

The Criminal Court on Wednesday afternoon sent arrested fugitive Somchai "Kamnam Poh" Khunploem to prison to serve a total term of 30 years and four months on two convictions, bringing his long run from the law to a sudden end.

Somchai was escorted to the court by armed commando police about 2.30pm. He appeared before the bench at 3.15pm for formal identification.

When he was arrested earlier today, Somchai was carrying a medical bill in the name Kim sae Tang.  He admitted to the court he and Kim were the same person.

The court then committed Somchai to serve 30 years and four months in prison - 25 years on a conspiracy to murder conviction and five years and four months on a corruption conviction involving the purchase of a garbage  dump site at tambon Khao Mai Kaew in Chon Buri.

Somchai was then taken in a Corrections Department vehicle to Bangkok Remand Prison.

At the court, Somchai was met by his son Witthaya Khunploem, the president of the Chon Buri provincial administration organisation (PAO) and about 10 family members.

Only Mr Witthaya was allowed to talk to him, for about five minutes.
