Amlo freezes Tao Poon casino land

The Anti-Money Laundering Office has frozen ownership of the block of land on which the notorious Tao Poon casino was located in Bangkok's Bang Sue district, Amlo secretary-general Sihanart Prayoonrat said on Wednesday.

The 250 square wah of land, worth about 10.8 million baht, is in Soi Khao San in Bang Sue. A building on the land housed the illegal gambling den known as Tao Poon casino, believed owned by an influential figure.

Pol Col Sihanart told a press conference that although the title deeds for the land show that the owner is Samart Singchamnong, a food vendor, it is believed he is only a proxy.

The land and the building had been sub-leased to Winyoo Sringernyuang, who was the operator of the casino.

He said Amlo is investigating to establish the real owner of the land.

The land has been frozen for a period of 90 days for investigation, Pol Col Sihanart said.

Amlo is also in the process of freezing assets of a few other casinos, he added.

The Amlo secretary-general also the seizure of Yihad Witthaya School, or Ponoh Yihad, at Ban Tha Dan in tambon Talo Kapo of Pattani's Yaring district in the far South.

Security forces had determined that the school had been use as an arms training site for separatist insurgents, he said.

Documents found in the premises linked the school with Masae Useng, a suspect in a terrorism case, Pol Col Suchart said.
