'Lucky couple' killed in road accident

An Udon Thani couple who won 42 million baht in the lottery November last year were killed in a road accident on Thursday night.

The accident occurred about 9.15 pm when Wimon Fakkao, 56, and his wife Nantha, 51, were ridng their  motorcycle on Udon Dusadee road in Muang district. They were hit by a Porsche car driven by a teenager.

Both sustained severe injuries and were later pronounced dead at Udon Thani Hospital. 

The Porsche driver, Sithichai Suwannamalee, 18, surrendered to the police at the crash scene.

Mr Sithichai, whose father is goldshop owner in Laos, told police he was in a hurry and speeding to reach the border crossing at the Thai-Lao friendship bridge before it closed.

The couple's bike cut sharply at front of him, resulting in the crash, Mr Sithichai said. 

Wimon and his wife had run a lottery shop in Udon for more than 10 years. 

On Nov 16 last year the couple were left with tickets they had not sold for the lottery drawn that day. Those tickets won a total of 42 million baht.
