Two beauty clinics raided

BANGKOK - Public Health Ministry and consumer protection police raided two well-known beauty clinics in Siam Square on Monday.

Pasit Sakdanarong, adviser to Public Health Minister, said the raids came after complaints were made to public health officials.

Operator of Nitipon Clinic, Siam square branch, was charged with dispensing drugs without a physician's instruction and fined a maximum 30,000 baht.

The operator of Wuttisak Clinic, Siam square branch, was charged with using exaggerated advertisements on a billboard and fined 20,000 baht.

The operator was also ordered to remove the poster, said Mr Pasit.

He said health ministry has recently examined many beauty clinics, to ensure they meet a good standard, in line with the government's policy to make Thailand a medical hub for the region.

He predicted the beauty industry in Thailand would be boom after the implementation of the Asean Economic Community (AEC), under which strict regulation must be enforced to protect consumers.

He said more raids on clinics would follow.
