Storm destroys houses in Northeast

A violent storm has ripped through more than 100 houses in the northeastern province of Sakon Nakhon and killed at least one villager.

Vicharn Thaenhin, head of Sakon Nakhon's Disaster Prevention And Mitigation Office, said on Sunday that more than 100 houses in Muang district have been ravaged by the high winds.

He said Montree Dasopha drowned after he was swept away while fishing near a temple in Muang district.

In Kalasin province, a summer storm destroyed more than 50 houses but no casualties were reported.

The Meteorological Department warned people in upper Thailand of thunderstorms and isolated gusts and hail, caused by a high pressure area from China.
