Herbalist's song praises Thai herbs

A well-known herbal pharmacist from Kanchanaburi province has composed and performed a song to promote the use of Thai medicinal herbs and uploaded it to Youtube.

"I've been working in the herbal field for more than 30 years and have developed medicines to successfully treat patients with heart disease, diabetes or even HIV," Chairat "Mor Naen" Nontachai told reporters on Wednesday.

However, he said, the government had not given much attention to Thai herbal medicines.

Thailand would not need to spend billions of baht importing defibrillators and artificial hearts each year if the government had more understanding of Thai herbs and their uses.

"If the prime minister helps promote Thai herbs, I believe foreigners will certainly accept them and be amazed by their medicinal properties," Mor Naen said.

He said he had composed and sung a song informing people about the current state of Thai herbal treatments,  before they fall into disuse. He was also calling on the state sector to give more importance to the herbal sector.
