B100 million amphetamine bust

Police have seized methamphetamine pills and crystal methamphetamine with a total street value of about 100 million baht, and arrested eight alleged members of a drug ring based in the North, the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) announced on Wednesday.

Deputy NSB chief Pol Maj-Gen Charnthep Sesavej said six men and two women were apprehended.

He identified the men as Samsao Tatan, 23, Soravuth Chuwirat, 33, Karant Noyma, 33, Tan Namsao, 25, Ailawin Klinsuwan, 23, and Karun Suthiwiriwan, 25, and the two women as Chosita Rayothi, 26, and Jenjira Prompiram, 23.

Acting on a tip-off, NSB police arrested Ms Chosita and Mr Samsao in Thawi Watthana district. They  had  400,000 methamphetamine pills and 7kg of crystal methamphetamine, or ya ice,  in their possession, he said.

Information from the two led to the arrest of the six other suspects.

The suspects were members of a drug ring  based in the North, Pol Maj Gen Charnthep said.  The drugs were delivered from an area in Chiang Rai province on the Thai-Myanmar border to Bang Khae area in Bangkok. They were to be delivered in the South. The operation was ordered by an inmate of Nakhon Si Thammarat prison.

The suspects were paid 80,000 baht for each delivery, he said.

They were charged with having illicit drugs in possession with intent to sell.
