Angry vendors attack loan shark thugs

Thugs working for a loan shark were attacked and driven away by food vendors after they assaulted an elderly vendor at Bang Khae fresh market in Bangkok on Tuesday evening.

Police said they received a report  that a group of men had attacked an elderly woman selling sweets at the market.

At the scene, police found Supa Thongdeang, 56, with injuries to her head and escorted her to a hospital.

Her stall was destroyed and scattered on the roadside.

Police were told that one of the thugs had already been taken to hospital in a critical condition. He was  a member of the gang that wrecked Mrs Supa’s food stall, witnesses said.

Danusorn Chao-ubol, 33, was stabbed four times on his back.

According to Mrs Supa’s daughter, Nucharee Silvicharn, 36,  about 10 men arrived on motorcycles. They were armed with knives and started breaking things without any warning, then they began beating her mother.

Outraged vendors ganged together to fight the loan shark thugs and drove them away.

She told police that her mother borrowed 7,000 baht from a loan shark identified as “Roch”.

“My mother hasn’t paid him in full, she asked them to give her another few days,” Ms. Nucharee said.

She said the attack came after her mother asked for another extension to the loan.

Police said they would interrogate the wounded member of the gang to identify their leader as well as find out who stabbed Mr. Danusorn.
