Three items of clothing were soaked in water mixed with about 1.2kg of cocaine before being dried and sent from Argentina to Thailand, Narcotics Suppression Bureau deputy chief Suraphon Thuanthong, said Friday.

The two suspects - Frank Anthony, 34, and Naruemon Noksaeng, 25 - were apprehended after they received a parcel, containing the clothing, at a post office in Nakhon Pathom on Thursday.

Police said the pair told them they were not aware there were drugs on the clothes.

They claimed they were asked to pick up the parcel to forward it to an African friend in Bangkok.

Pol Maj Gen Suraphon said once the clothes reached drug gangsters in Thailand, they would soak them to wash out the drugs which would then form crystals of cocaine.
