Dismembered body identified

Police on Sunday revealed they had identified a dismembered male body found dumped in a dry canal in Chai Nat's Manorom district on Thursday night.

Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Ake Angsananont said the dead person was Kriangkrai Khwan-on, 24, from Bangkok.

Pol Gen Ake yesterday called a meeting with Hangnam Sakhon police in Chai Nat to extend the investigation into the murder. He said he was told that after the media reported the discovery of the body, Sanit Khwan-on, the dead man's father, contacted police and confirmed that the dismembered body was his son. Pol Gen Ake said the father gave police information about his missing son and a Mitzubishi Mirage car, which was traced to the front of Lat Yao Hospital in Nakhon Sawan's Lat Yao district.

Nakhon Sawan is adjacent to Chai Nat.

A police investigator said Kriangkrai was a bank officer in Bangkok. He was a gay man and had a close relationship with another man. The source said jealousy or intention to steal the assets of the dead man could be motives for the killing.

The source said the offender is still at large but police were confident they would soon bring him to justice. He said because the limbs had been neatly severed, it was likely to have been done with a chainsaw operated by someone with a good knowledge of anatomy, especially the types of joints.
