Twenty Thai and foreign tourists were stranded for an hour when the electric monorail at the Chiang Mai Zoo stopped working on Saturday.
A rescue basket was deployed to free the stranded passengers from cars that were sitting about 10 metres above the ground. There were no injuries.
A preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle did not have a faulty electrical system, but a brake problem caused it to stop unexpectedly, said Wittaya Singkum, a public relations officer at the zoo.
The monorail, which entered service in late 2007, can transport between 50 and 70 pasengers at a time in air-conditioned cars.
