Police catch Cambodian 'casino killer'

Police have arrested a man allegedly involved in killing a Japanese tourist and stealing money the victim won at a Cambodian casino.

Sok Na: Accused of targeting gamblers

Pol Maj Gen Ronasilp Pusara, commander of the investigation and interrogation division at the Immigration Police Bureau, said 28-year-old Cambodian national Sok Na fled to Thailand last month and was located in Chachoengsao province on Thursday.

Sok Na and four other suspects are accused of killing 44-year-old Japanese tourist Kitakura Kosei in March and taking the money he had won at a casino in Phnom Penh. The winnings came to about US$18,000 (533,000 baht).

Cambodian police issued arrest warrants for the suspects in two other deadly armed robbery cases.

Pol Maj Gen Ronasilp said Sok Na confessed he was riding a motorcycle for the gunman. He allegedly said he was paid $400 for the job and the gang targeted gamblers who won large amounts of money at casinos.

Three other suspects were arrested in Cambodia.

Police are looking for another suspect who is thought to have fled to Thailand.
